The Whole Foods Market on Seattle’s Westlake Avenue sits at the epicenter of Amazon’s Seattle headquarters, just a few minutes away from the company’s new high-rise office buildings.
It was no surprise that the Friday lunch time rush at the grocery store was flooded with blue badge Amazon employees. While many were unwilling to speak to GeekWire, we did find shoppers with opinions on Amazon’s blockbuster $13.7 billion purchase of Whole Foods Market. Kimberly is a chef at Whole Foods. Taking a break from preparing steaks and catered meals, she told GeekWire, “I think it’s going to be business as usual.” She was optimistic that the acquisition would add value to the stock she owns in her employer.
As many enjoyed their daily lunch on the adjacent steps, some were revisiting Whole Foods because of the big news. Carrying large boxes of pizza from the market back to the office, a group of Amazon workers celebrated the announcement.
