BATON ROUGE, La. — After two easy wins to start the 2017 season, the LSU football team is headed for its first real test Saturday when it takes on Mississippi State.

On the weekly edition of Sound Off with Nick and Alex, SEC Country’s LSU beat reporters preview the game by looking at the three biggest topics pertaining to LSU football this week. First, the two begin by discussing the announced return from injury of outside linebacker Arden Key, a preseason All-American, and what his value might be as he eases his way back into the starting lineup. Then the two transition into some of the bigger issues the team will have to correct: penalties and missed field goals.

Check out the timestamps below to see when these topics are discussed in the video:

0:30: Arden Key is returning from offseason shoulder surgery and will take the field for the first time since his two-sack performance against Louisville in the Citrus Bowl last December. How much time will he see, and what exactly will be his purpose on this already jelling LSU defense?

4:15: LSU has committed 21 penalties through two games this season, including 10 in the first half of LSU’s win over Chattanooga last Saturday. What steps have Ed Orgeron and his staff taken to correct this, and why have these penalties cropped up in the first place?

6:55: Kickers Connor Culp and Jack Gonsoulin have combined to miss three kicks in two games this year. Orgeron reacted by reopening the competition to be LSU’s kicker this week. Does anyone have an edge, and what are LSU’s special team members saying about the issue?

A new edition of Sound Off with Nick and Alex is posted every Wednesday. Check back to SEC Country each week for this and more LSU football updates as the season continues.
