Welcome to SEC Country’s daily War Eagle Wakeup, a rundown of everything happening in Auburn football and Auburn Tigers athletics with Lauren Shute. Here’s a look at what you might have missed at the end of last week and over the weekend.

Cranking up the nonconference?

Auburn has received praise from national media the last couple of years for its football scheduling.

Of course, the Tigers kicked things off in 2016 by hosting Clemson in a thrilling home opener. The year before that, Auburn scraped past Louisville in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game. In 2014, Auburn traveled to Kansas State. Other past opponents included Washington State and Southern Cal.

Considering the quality of the SEC — and particularly the West Division — Auburn likely will continue to play teams such as Louisiana-Lafayette and San Jose State. Still, fans might be in luck with future schedules.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick has discussed the interest he has in playing Alabama and Auburn, most recently in a Q&A with the Indianapolis Star. The Tigers never have matched up against the Fighting Irish despite each school’s long football histories.

This could be beneficial to each side as strength of schedule continues to play a major part in the College Football Playoff discussion.

In other Auburn football news:

Auburn JUCO offensive line target Badara Traore can see himself playing in orange and blue. Daniel Carlson believes his ideal senior season doesn’t necessarily include the Lou Groza Award. Gus Malzahn made it clear at SEC Media Days that Jarrett Stidham is not locked into the starting position. Another Tigers star to watch

Daniel Carlson, Tray Matthews and Braden Smith did exactly what they were asked at Media Days. That leadership group isn’t the only one receiving preseason hat tips, either.

A whole crew of Tigers has earned preseason recognition, including nine Auburn players who landed on an All-SEC team.

On Friday, the NFL’s college football Twitter account listed Smith as one of the top offensive linemen to keep an eye on in 2017.

As if watching Smith, who said the nickname that has stuck with him the longest is “gigantor,” ever was a concern.

Kasey Cooper is coming back

Have you been wishing you could watch Kasey Cooper play at Jane B. Moore Field a couple more times?

Well, check it off the list. This is an early reminder — there will be another later this week — that the Auburn softball star will be back on campus, this time as a member of Team USA.

The Americans will play the Alabama Stars (a group of collegiate players from across the state) on the Plains this weekend.

As an added bonus, spectators will get to watch Victoria Draper, Kendall Veach, Ashlee Swindle and KK Crocker in action.

These 4️⃣ standouts are set to take on @Kasey_Cooper13 & @USASoftball July 22 at Jane B. Moore Field!

Tweet of the day

Everyone is eager for college football to get going. Auburn wide receivers coach Kodi Burns, who will be in charge of a group with a lot of potential, is ready.

Burns tweeted this out in a state of slight desperation last week:

Drone racing is currently on ESPN… Hurry up football season! #WDE!!!
