Three more Alabama football players were named to preseason award watch lists on Monday.
Linebackers Shaun Dion Hamilton and Rashaan Evans were both named to the Butkus Award watch list, which is awarded to the nation’s top linebacker. Former Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster won the award last season.
Defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick was named to the Paul Hornung Award watch list, which is given to the nation’s most versatile player.
Prior to his knee injury in the SEC Championship Game, Hamilton was in the midst of a breakout junior season. He was third on the team with 64 tackles, including 9 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. Hamilton also added 2 interceptions and a forced fumble. Barring any setbacks, Hamilton should be back in his position at the start of fall camp.
Making his first career start against Washington in the playoffs, Evans matched his career-high with 7 tackles and had 1 sack. He topped that total in the national championship game with 11 stops (6 solo) while registering a half sack vs. Clemson.
Hamilton and Evans have a chance to be one of the top linebacker duos in the SEC and the country.
Last season, Fitzpatrick seamlessly made the transition to safety after Eddie Jackson broke a leg against Texas A&M.
Fitzpatrick finished fourth on the team last season with 66 tackles. He added 5 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble.
Fitzpatrick’s team-high 6 interceptions was tied for seventh in the country.
