Fans are already aware that the AMC show’s latest series will feature the “All Out War” comic book storyline, and Rick (played by Andrew Lincoln) is taking no prisoners in his determination to destroy the leader of the Saviours’ Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
But with no apparent confirmation of the pair’s eventual showdown, 44-year-old star Andrew may have dropped a huge hint about the future scene.
Given that the bat-wielding psychopath is an important staple in Robert Kirkman’s comic book series, it makes sense that fans shouldn’t expect Rick to end his life very quickly - despite his multitude of reasons to do so.
But the actor still recognises what the fans want, and he promised to do his best in a new “Look at Season 8” video for the show.
Walking Dead: Rick and Negan will finally go head-to-head this season
Walking Dead: Negan has survived two seasons on the show already
Walking Dead: Rick Grimes may not kill Negan this season
“The general consensus seems to be about 98 percent: 'Please, could you kill Negan?'
"I'm going to do my best to seek revenge,” he teased.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey stayed true to his character when he denied anyone getting the better of his killer character.
He admitted: ”I think the fans this year probably want to see Negan get a little bit of his a** kicked. Do I think it's gonna happen? No. No one's gonna get Negan.
Walking Dead: Eugene joined Negan's team last season on the show
"Will Negan get his? I don't know. I'm still sitting here in front of you right now."
Viewers are desperate to see the characters face off against each other, and as is customary, most villains on the zombie horror series last a maximum of two seasons.
Will season eight be the end for the wise-cracking character? Or will Rick go down with him?
The Walking Dead airs tonight on AMC at 9pm ET in the US and will in the UK tomorrow on FOX at 9pm.
