WARNING: The following article contains spoilers from season eight, episode one.

Viewers were left in uproar after in the series premiere as he tried to save Gregory (Xander Berkeley) while storming the Saviors compound. 

And next week, it looks as though another major character's life will be left hanging in the balance as Carol (Melissa McBride) finds herself in a difficult situation. 

The Alexandrian will be working closely with King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) to help stop Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) from getting his hands on more weapons but it seems it could all go wrong.

Before heading into a building, she can be heard warning an unidentified group: "If he tells them we're here, it's over before it's started."

The teaser clip then cuts to a frightened Carol looking cautiously over her shoulder as an unknown figure walks towards her with a gun. 

Could this be the end for Carol or will she make it out alive?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she teased: "She just went off to save herself, but she knows she’s got to fight and she knows what that means to her.

"She laid it out for Daryl when he came to her cottage that she's running a risk of losing herself in the fight, but it's worth it to her. And I think we'll see she's going to fight the conflict in her mind, it's going to be alive there too."

The Walking Dead continues in the US on AMC on Sunday at 9pm ET and airs tonight on FOX in the UK at 9pm.
