The 28-year-old actor’s character is currently at loggerheads with Max Branning (played by Jake Wood) who has added Steven to the list of people he can currently control.

After his failed attempt at getting the upper hand with Max, the tables soon turn on Steven when he finds himself trapped in a corner by Max who threatens to reveal the truth about his fake brain tumour to concerned Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa).

With no escape, Max will insist that Steven helps him with a risky task, but will he work with the Walford hard man in order to stop the truth from coming out?

Could his risky task be part of Max's wider plan to destroy Walford? Will Steven clash with Max in a way that will lead to him being bumped off from the Albert Square community?

New episode pictures show Max pushing Steven up against a wall and giving him a stern warning in scenes due to air this Thursday.

It comes as Aaron hinted that Max would play a part in Steven’s downfall, telling Christine Lampard on Lorraine: “There's a great dynamic that's not fully come into play yet. [Max] was always the manipulator and now he is becoming the manipulated and we will see the danger in him there. [Steven] is completely out of control of the situation and he does become the puppet.”

Aaron also thanked fans on Twitter after his exit announcement was made and cleared up the reasons behind his departure.

He posted: “To the fans of EastEnders. Thank you for your on going support these past 18 months. I wanted to take this chance to clear up any confusion over my exit.

“Regardless of what you’ve read or believe I didn’t sign a year long contract back in March. I signed for six months. A decision both I and my representation were happy about as it gave us the chance to continue working on other opportunities.

“Whilst my storyline has been incredibly challenging given my personal situation this has not lead to me quitting the show in protest. I have always been lucky enough to have the support of the BBC and I respect them more than I can explain. I love EastEnders and everyone connected to the show with all my heart.”

A BBC spokesperson added: “Aaron Sidwell is part of one of the big upcoming storylines and we can confirm, following dramatic scenes to be aired later this summer, he will be leaving the show. We wish Aaron all the very best for the future.”

continues tomorrow on at 8pm.
