Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's eldest son has given his very first interview.

Maddox, 16, worked alongside his famous mum on the set of First They Killed My Father as an executive producer.

The film, which is adapted from a memoir by activist and lecturer Loung Ung, was filmed in Cambodia where Maddox was adopted from in 2002.

Asked what it's like to team up with Angelina the first time, he revealed she was "fun" and "easy" to work with.

“I was trying to help wherever I could,” the teenager told People . “[She’s] fun, funny, and easy to work with. She’s a wonder.”

And when asked what the favourite thing about Cambodia is, he replied: “The people by far. [They are] calm, relaxed, and when they want to do something wild, they do it - much like me in a way. I’m proud to be a Cambodian.”

She was joined by her six children

Angelina, Maddox and the teen's brothers and sisters - Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne - all appeared at the Toronto premiere of the film earlier in the week.

Completing the line-up on the red carpet was Ung and two of the film's stars - Sareum Srey Moch and Kimhak Mun.

Not all of Angelina's brood looked particularly happy to be there

Asked about having her children on set, the Hollywood actress said: "They worked hard."

While Loung Ung said: "They really were wonderful. I mean it was so important for Mad, he's so used to being a big brother to all the siblings that when he was on the set it was a natural transition for him to just be big brother to everybody else. It was lovely, I loved it."

Directed by Angelina, the film starts in the 70s when Ung was a child living a normal family life and chronicles her life as she struggles to survive the genocide and escape the Khmer Rouge regime.

First They Killed My Father will debut on Netflix on September 15.
