UK Tourism Numbers Surge Because Visiting Is Still Cheap - World News

Skift Take: It's still fairly cheap to visit the UK for foreigners because of the weakness of the pound so tourism numbers are up. The country's Brexit-related monetary woes also haven't deeply impacted British vacation-goers who are still getting out and about for fun.

The fall in the pound may be a burden for inflation-squeezed British consumers but it’s proving a boon for the tourism industry.

Figures on Friday showed foreign holidaymakers made 2.73 million visits to the U.K. in the first quarter, 18 percent more than in the same period last year, whereas the number of British vacationers going abroad rose just 1 percent.

Despite a recovery over the past month, the pound is still down 13 percent since the Brexit vote last year.
