Tennessee recruiting: Vols’ QB target Michael Penix to attend spring game
Tennessee is looking to recapture its glory from the 1990s. Join us daily at SEC Country for the latest Tennessee recruiting news and notes on the next crop of Volunteers. Today, we discuss quarterback Michael Penix, who announced that he’d be attending the Vols’ Orange and White spring game on Saturday.
Spring football games are important for a few reasons.
They give schools an opportunity to see what they have, letting position battles play out in real game situations. They’re opportunities for coaches to gimmick things up a bit and draw some added interest and hype from football starved fan bases. But maybe most importantly, they’re big time recruiting events that can create a great atmosphere for recruits and leave them with a positive impression going into the crucial summer camp portion of the recruiting cycle.
That is contingent, however, on the ability to get priority targets on campus for the game. That’s not always an easy task, just ask Tennessee. This year, their spring game goes against those of Alabama, Georgia and LSU, all schools that share recruiting ground with the Vols and therefore targets. While that’s sure to mean that not every target that Tennessee would like to have on campus will be there, it did get some good news in the form of a tweet from 3-star QB target Michael Penix on Thursday, confirming that he’d be in attendance for the Vols’ spring game.
I will be attending the University of Tennessee spring game this weekend
