Tennessee football picked 6th in SEC East behind Missouri — by Missouri writer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee didn’t get any votes of confidence to win the SEC at the annual media days function, but at least one Missouri writer took it a step further.
Dave Matter, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, picked the Vols to finish sixth in the SEC East Division — behind Missouri.
Matter clearly stands behind his pick, having not only published it, but also taking to Twitter to alert his followers that UT fans have taken note.
It appears Tennessee fans have discovered my SEC East picks. I’m impressed with their reasonable and sophisticated replies.

Tennessee beat the Tigers last season 63-37, scoring four touchdowns in the fourth quarter in a fast-paced shootout.

Missouri’s 740 yards (on 110 plays) against the Vols were the most ever against a Tennessee defense, perhaps providing the optimism one might need to predict the Tigers would finish ahead of UT this season.

Missouri also won its first three meetings against the Vols after joining the SEC, including a 31-3 win over Tennessee in Butch Jones’ first season as head coach (2013).
Of course, that Tigers’ team went on to win the SEC East Division and finish 12-2 and No. 5 in the polls.
Tennessee was picked to finish tied for third in the SEC East Division with Kentucky in the SEC Country preseason poll, and third by the media representatives at SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala., last week.
