Martin will receive a $1.1 million budget to hire three assistants and for three other staff positions. There are also sliding buyout scales on each side of the deal. Mizzou will pay the buyout for Martin’s Cal contract.

Martin, an East St. Louis, Ill., native, was announced as Tigers coach last week. He replaces Kim Anderson. A former Purdue standout, Martn coached three years apiece at Missouri State, Tennessee and California before coming to Columbia.

At the media conference, Martin said he admired coach Norm Stewart’s Mizzou program while growing up.

As for the current elephant in the room, Martin is not commenting on the rumors that Michael Porter Sr. will join his staff.

Porter’s son, Michael Porter Jr., is the nation’s No. 1 prospect for the college basketball 2017 recruiting class. He was a Washington commit before the Huskies fired coach Lorenzo Romar.

Michael Porter Jr. played at Tolton Regional Catholic High School in Columbia before moving to Washington, where his father was an assistant to Romar. The Huskies released Porter from his commitment. Porter is Romar’s godson.

A brother, Jontay Porter, is a 6-foot-9 power forward who is committed to Missouri in its 2018 recruiting class. Michael Porter Jr. is a 6-foot-8 shooting guard. Both played this season at Nathan Hale High in Seattle while their father coached with Romar.

The elder Porter is a former assistant coach for the Mizzou women’s team. Robin Pingeton, who coaches the women’s team, is his sister-in-law. Porter’s two daughters play for the the Tigers.
