Auburn softball vs. South Carolina: Preview, times and how to watch online
AUBURN, Ala. — It’s another weekend road series, another major off-the-field issue to deal with for Auburn softball.
One day before the No. 7 Tigers (37-7, 10-5 SEC) open their 3-game stretch at South Carolina, three Auburn players — including two starters — received indefinite suspensions after marijuana arrests on Thursday morning.
Senior shortstop Haley Fagan, sophomore pitcher Makayla Martin and freshman outfielder Brittany Maresette didn’t travel with the team to South Carolina. Fagan has started every game for the Tigers this season and is one of the team’s best hitters. Martin is Auburn’s No. 2 starting pitcher behind junior Kaylee Carlson.

The Tigers won’t have all three of them for a weekend series in Columbia. That news came after a Wednesday night nonconference win against Kennesaw State, when star third baseman Kasey Cooper took a grounder to the face in warmups and missed a start.
Cooper was a pinch hitter later in the 7-3 victory. Her status as a possible starter for the weekend series isn’t clear.
“It was a good win, and it’s going to get us ready for South Carolina,” coach Clint Myers said Wednesday night. “Every time we talked about it — every time they scored we answered, so that’s good, and that’s important for teams to be able to do.”
Myers will have a makeshift starting lineup and pitching rotation this weekend against the Gamecocks, who is 3-11 in SEC play. The last time the Tigers hit the road for a series after a major change — the abrupt resignation of associate head coach Corey Myers — they swept Georgia.
With just three weekend series left in SEC play, Auburn needs to find another gear, even if it has to come shorthanded.
“We’ve been doing a lot of talking,” Myers said. “We’ve got to go out and spank somebody, let them know Auburn is for real.”
