Approval rating for LSU coach Ed Orgeron: You decide - World News

As the season approaches, we’re getting closer to finding out how Ed Orgeron will do in his second chance at leading an SEC program.

Orgeron became LSU’s full-time coach in November after taking over on an interim basis in September following the dismissal of Les Miles. Orgeron moved quickly to retain Dave Aranda as defensive coordinator and later brought in Matt Canada as offensive coordinator. He brought in the No. 7 recruiting class for the 2017 cycle and has the No. 5 class for 2018. That latter number is just behind Tennessee, leaving the Tigers second in the SEC.

At SEC Media Days, the Tigers were pegged to finish third in the SEC West, behind overwhelming favorite Alabama and Auburn.

For LSU, the quarterback battle will be one to watch. Returning starter Danny Etling is considered the favorite and is recovering from back surgery, but the competition is far from over. Whoever is named the starter has the luxury of handing the ball to Derrius Guice, one of the country’s best running backs and recently named first-team preseason All-SEC.

In SEC Country’s previous approval poll, Orgeron’s rating took a big hit after some small controversies involving satellite camps. He had his lowest approval rating yet, coming at 69.6, good for 11th among the SEC coaches.

Orgeron reportedly signed a five-year, $17.5 million contract with LSU. The Sept. 2 game against BYU will be his first season opener as a team’s coach since 2007, when he was with Ole Miss. In addition to an interim stint last season, he also served as interim coach at Southern Cal in 2013.

Vote on Ed Orgeron’s approval rating

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Ed Orgeron is handling his job as LSU head football coach?

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Ed Orgeron is handling his job as LSU head football coach?

The SEC Country approval rating poll is designed to give an indication of fan happiness over a period of time.

Our formula is based on the percentage of respondents who select each answer. We multiply that percentage by the following factors: 1 (strongly approve), 0.67 (approve), 0.33 (disapprove) and 0.0 (strongly disapprove). In other words, if 50 percent of respondents select “strongly approve” and 50 percent select “approve,” the formula would be (50 x 1) + (50 x 0.67) = 83.5% approval rating.
