Allahabad HC permits functioning of Amethi training centre - World News

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday directed the State government not to interfere in the functioning of a vocational training centre situated at Jais in Amethi district under the Rajiv Gandhi Women Development Programme.

The centre is being overseen by the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust. The court set the next hearing in the second week of July asking the State to file its reply over the issue.

A Division Bench of Justice S N Shukla and Justice S K Singh issued the directives while hearing a writ petition filed by a self-help group Vikas Block Mahila Samuh.

The petitioner had drawn the court’s attention towards a notice issued by SDM Tiloi, Amethi on April 22 this year wherein he had questioned the petitioner that by which authority the centre was being run on a land which was owned by the State government in the land revenue records.

Subsequently, the petitioner’s counsel CB Pandey submitted in the court though it was a government land, the same would be used for vocational training and there was nothing illegal.

Considering the place in question was earmarked for vocational training, the bench restrained the State authorities from disturbing the functioning of the centre.

A senior state Congress leader accused Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani of indulging in politics of vendetta.

He claimed she was prompting the district administration to take coercive measures and get the land vacated. Irani had contested the last Lok Sabha election unsuccessfully from Amethi against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. She had alleged the Trust had grabbed the land meant for a school in Amethi.
